The short version
Ring Glance shows your Oura Ring data on your Wear OS watch. We built it to touch as little of your data as possible:
- We read your Oura data — we never change it, and we never write anything back to Oura.
- Your data lives only on your watch, encrypted. We run no servers that hold your health data.
- We never sell, rent, or share your data with anyone, and we don't allow any advertising or analytics tools to see it.
- We keep only the most recent values, and only as long as needed to show them.
- You can erase everything instantly from inside the app ("Disconnect from Oura").
- The app is for adults 18 and older.
The rest of this policy explains each of those in detail.
1. Who we are
Ring Glance is an independent, third-party app for existing Oura Ring owners. It is not made by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Ōura Health Oy ("Oura"). "Oura" and "Oura Ring" are trademarks of their owner.
Nakhla Computing LLC is the data controller for the personal data described here — meaning we decide why and how it is processed on your device. Oura is a separate, independent controller for the data you hold in your Oura account; your relationship with Oura is governed by Oura's own privacy policy. When you connect Ring Glance, you authorize Oura (via OAuth) to share your data with us for display on your watch.
2. What data we access
With your explicit consent, Ring Glance reads the following from the Oura API on your behalf. Most of this is health data — a "special category" of personal data under GDPR Article 9:
- Sleep — sleep score and contributors, stages, efficiency, heart-rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, respiratory rate, time asleep
- Readiness — readiness score and contributors, body-temperature deviation
- Activity — activity score, steps, active calories, active time, movement
- Heart rate — recent heart-rate samples (Oura provides ~5-minute samples, not live)
- Daytime stress — Oura's daily stress summary (restored / normal / stressful, plus time in high-stress and high-recovery zones)
- Ring battery — battery level and charging state
Ring Glance is read-only. The Oura API has no ability to write user data, and we never attempt to.
Permissions we hold but don't currently use. Your Oura authorization also grants Ring Glance access to two things the app does not read or display today:
- your basic profile info (age, biological sex, height, weight); and
- your ring's configuration details (e.g., size, hardware) — the same Oura permission that lets us read your ring battery, which we do show.
We currently read neither your profile fields nor your ring's size/hardware. The profile permission is reserved for a planned optional feature — notifications when new data is ready — that would use only your Oura account identifier to route the notification to your device. We will update this policy before any such feature reads that data.
3. Why we process it, and our legal basis
We process this data for one purpose: to display your own Oura data to you on your watch's app screens, tiles, and complications. We do not profile you, score you, or use your data for any other purpose.
Under GDPR our legal bases are:
- Article 6(1)(a) — consent, and for health data Article 9(2)(a) — explicit consent. Before Ring Glance makes any call to Oura, you are shown a consent screen that names each category of health data and asks you to explicitly agree. You can withdraw this consent at any time (see Section 7).
4. Where your data is stored, and how we protect it
- On your device only. Your Oura data is cached locally on your watch in an encrypted database. The encryption keys are held in the Android Keystore (hardware-backed where available); access and refresh tokens are encrypted separately the same way.
- We operate no backend that stores your health data. Your watch talks directly to Oura's API. Your health data never passes through or rests on our servers — because we don't have any for this purpose.
- In transit, all communication with Oura uses HTTPS/TLS.
5. What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, license, or share your Oura data with any third party — even with your consent. (This is stricter than the law requires and reflects our agreement with Oura.)
- We do not allow advertising SDKs or third-party analytics tools to access your health data.
- We do not write to or modify your Oura account in any way.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
6. Retention
We keep only the latest value for each metric, and no longer than necessary to display it. As new data arrives it overwrites the old, so we don't build up a history on your device — with one exception: body-temperature deviation, where we keep about the last 29 days so the four-week temperature trend can be drawn. That window is fixed: each update replaces the whole window, so it never grows beyond about a month. We keep the minimum needed to show your current data quickly and offline — consistent with GDPR's data-minimization and storage-limitation principles. Because storage is on your device, uninstalling the app or using "Disconnect from Oura" removes the data. One difference worth knowing: "Disconnect from Oura" also revokes Ring Glance's authorization on Oura's side, while uninstalling alone only deletes the watch's local copy — the access grant you gave remains on your Oura account until it expires or is revoked. If you uninstall without disconnecting first, you can still revoke Ring Glance's access at any time from your Oura account's connected-apps settings.
7. Your rights and choices
You can exercise most rights directly in the app, instantly:
- Access — your data is shown to you in the app; that is the data we hold.
- Erasure / withdraw consent — "Disconnect from Oura" revokes Ring Glance's access token with Oura and wipes all locally stored data and tokens. This is immediate and requires no request to us.
- Rectification & restriction — because we only display data sourced from Oura, corrections are made in your Oura account; we then reflect them.
You also have these rights under GDPR (and equivalent rights under UK GDPR and applicable US state laws such as California's CCPA/CPRA, Washington's My Health My Data Act, and others):
- Portability — note that the right to receive your data in portable form runs against Oura, the source controller that holds your full history, not against Ring Glance (we hold only a recent on-device copy). Any in-app export we offer is a convenience, not the legal discharge of this right.
- Object / withdraw consent at any time (Article 7(3)).
- Lodge a complaint with your data protection supervisory authority.
To exercise any right that isn't self-service, contact us at privacy@nakhlacomputing.com.
8. Third parties and sub-processors
- Oura — the source of your data. You authorize the connection via OAuth; Oura's privacy policy governs your Oura account.
- Google — Ring Glance runs on Wear OS and uses Google Play services for standard app delivery and OAuth sign-in (the Wear OS system companion relays the consent step to your phone's browser). The sign-in browser step happens on your phone; we do not receive your Oura password. Separately, Android and Google Play may collect technical crash and performance diagnostics under Google's own privacy policy and your device's diagnostics settings; the aggregated reports Google shows us contain no Oura data, tokens, or other app content.
We ship no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs of our own, and use no other tracking services.
9. International users
Your data is stored on your own device, so there is no cross-border transfer of your health data by us. Communication with Oura's API may involve Oura's own infrastructure, governed by Oura's privacy policy.
10. Children
Ring Glance is intended for users 18 years and older, consistent with Oura's own minimum age. We do not knowingly process data from anyone under 18.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change our data practices, we will update this policy and its effective date, and — where the change is material — surface it in the app before it takes effect.
